Such ideas like all men are created equal with basic natural rights. A natural right such as the right to own property, a doctrine adopted from John Locke. The protection of property goes side by side with the right to own property. All property rights-- including women and wives-- are inclosed in book one of the Napoleonic Code.
Another Enlightenment idea incorporated into the Napoleonic code was religious tolerance. Prior to the Enlightenment, there was very little tolerance for religions that were not of the ruling party. Post-Enlightenment, however, people began to grow a necessary understanding of more and more religious beliefs. Napoleon saw that the main culprit of many failed governments were the citizens of that country, such as in France. He knew his only option was to allow people certain freedoms in order to corral the citizens of France. Religious tolerance was a key selling point to Napoleon's reign.
Although Napoleon had the favor of his subjects, a failed alliance with Russia led to him having to abdicate his title. However, in his reign, Napoleon managed to accomplish many things. Through the use of many Enlightenment ideas, Napoleon Bonaparte created a system of laws called the Napoleonic Code. His code set the foundations for many social contracts and constitutions to
