African American males in the United States have a high school graduation rate of 47% which is less than half. Males of color in the U.S are three times more likely to be suspended as well as being less likely to be classified as gifted and talented. However these rates shouldn’t define us, they’re just numbers at the end of the day. We have the capacity and mentality to be brilliant and how we use it can bring success. I also believe that one factor of these statistics is that oppression often time hinders motivation; maybe the reason behind low graduation rates and high dropout rates are due to social pressure and what is expected. To minimize this flawed way of thinking requires collective action where individual problems can be translated into publicized attention and the roots of the issues we experience can be
