The great compromise shows proof of this. The great compromise happened in the composition of convention when the representatives were trying to think of a good government system. The first idea that came up was the Virginia Plan where there would be vote by population but some representatives felt that this would progress them nowhere as it was the same as Articles of Confederation. The representatives didn’t want the power to be completely by the state because that was the articles of confederation but didn’t want to do it just by the population. The representatives ended up compromising and picking a government system that votes by the state AND population. This is a symbol of democracy because the representatives came together to agree on combining both of these ideas as a majority, rather than one central power picking only the Virgina Plan or visa versa. The great compromise was the first step towards democracy. If one central power picked only the virgina plan, it would 've causes most representatives and citizen to be stuck in the same position with the article of confederation, where they ended up unhappy with the government situation. If this did happen, it might have resulted in another constitution being written which there would be no promises the following one would be great either. When aiming to be democratic, the most important thing is to be willing to compromise and find a middle ground. If this cannot be done, it will be hard to ever come to an agreement or to ever not be ruled by one central
