Gatsby was born to be a farmer, but Gatsby wanted more with his life, he knew he make himself better than a farmer. He has always had high hopes for himself no matter of what other critics(TOM) had to say about him. Nick saw the true Gatsby this entire time. Nick didn't see a mysterious and strange man, he saw an ambitious and dream driven man. Gatsby could be on the status of James Gatz and still, I think Nick will consider him greater than that bunch, no matter his wealth. Gatsby’s drive to goals is something no rich person could buy, it was that unique thing in Gatsby that makes Nick admire him. This connects to one of the major themes, the American dream. It could also connect to the theme of old money not ever being satisfied. Gatsby is the perfect example of the American dream back then. He started off with no money, a poor job and a poor life. He worked so hard to make a name for himself. Although his ways of gaining money weren't exactly correct, he was willing to do anything to attain his goal at the time.
