According to Joan, one of the more recent executive directors, Susanne DeBerry Cole, was a professor of history at Washington College. DeBerry Cole tried bringing her classes to the historical society and encouraged her students to reach out to the Bordley House library. Joan believes that “people must know where they begin in order to build a brighter future.” Therefore, as a whole, the preservation of history is essential to the education of society. This Bordley House is, as of recently, the pith of Kent County’s Historical Society; hence, it provides citizens with a stupendous amount of information that connects them to something far greater than themselves, resulting in respect for both their town and ancestors.
