The group was taken to the Goblin king. He was determined to feed on the travelers, but out of no-where Gandalf came in and killed the king. It was total chaos and Bilbo found himself separated from the group.
Bilbo found himself alone and fearful. During this part of the story Bilbo must take it upon himself to find his friends safely. Bilbo is still undergoing a change in persona. He is chosen to become a thief and leaves his very comfortable hobbit hole to join thirteen people on an adventure. In the beginning, the hobbit is constantly getting the group in trouble and they start doubting him. Later on the journey, however, he becomes more “heroic” and starts getting his party and himself out of danger. Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who never once dreamed of going on an adventure, suddenly got chosen by Gandalf to become the fourteenth member of Thorin and Company's adventure to reach the Lonely Mountain and take it back from Smaug. Bilbo is a Baggins, the heir of a thoroughly respectable and conventional family through his father, but his mother was a Took, an eccentric clan of hobbits noted for their love of excitement and adventure. Despite having more money, the Tooks were less respected than the Baggins family, because of proving not hobbit-like. Although Bilbo began very much like his father, lazy and not adventurous, Bilbo contains a bit of Tookish instinct in himself which awakens inside him, when he hears one of the dwarves say something that offended him, this leads Bilbo to join the adventure to take back Dale with the dwarves. Bilbo also enjoyed the descriptions of adventure, and had an urge to go.…

The book The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, tells of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who struggles to find adventure in his life, but when the wizard Gandalf comes to his door a great journey commences. Bilbo does not expect this to happen, but when it does, he is indecisive on whether to follow the other dwarves on the “profitable”(6) quest. In the book it is not completely clear why Gandalf chooses Bilbo, but he claims that it is for “very good reasons”(15). Other than his scent being unfamiliar to Smaug, and his stealthiness as a hobbit, he is chosen because of Gandalf's hope to improve Bilbo’s experience outside of the Shire. Since he supposedly chose him because of reasons, he must have known something, resulting in him expanding his knowledge of…
