The Hunt Narrative

It was a semi cool morning on November 17, 2012 in Kadoka South Dakota. It was the second day of the hunt; we’re scheduled to leave .With breakfast in hand, a honey bun and chocolate milk, we left the gas station. We hopped on the interstate, to go to the other side of the county to walk the first area of the day. We hadn’t seen a deer yet and we were ready to hunt.
Dan Severson turned around in the ditch of the interstate, and got out and sprinted across to the other side. We had to cross one fence right away. It would then be on private land where we can’t hunt. Instead, it turned and ran right out in front of me. I still had a challenge because the deer was running at full speed, by the way if you don’t know they can run up to forty-five miles per hour. I then shot at it, just realizing it was a buck. I thought it was a doe when it was running through the trees. The horns were in the trees. I hit it in the back right knee. I then shot again missing.
The coolest sound I have ever heard in my life was when I heard the bullet fly over me, and then the deer finally the deer dropped. I then realized that it was Brian that shot. I then looked at the deer, then back Brian, then back at the deer. I did that several more times. He finally got the deer down with a shoot that was 500 plus yards away. I then ran up to my deer. At first I thought it only had horns on one side, but the grass was covering them on one side.
I finally got the biggest, the best, and first deer of my life, which so happens that it is the biggest deer to date that I’ve shot. It is a 4 by 7, a big 11 pointer. This was a great memory and experience I got to spend with my dad, Brian, Dan and Darin. That is the story of my first

“Killing the Big One” It was just any ordinary day in January and deer season was in full swing. We had been hunting hard all season and I was still yet to get my first ever deer. Hunting has been around since the dawn of time. Having transformed from a vital means of survival to a sporting activity, people have long debated both sides of the issue. While some view hunting as a righteous action, others despise the deed. The argument for hunting as an admirable or distasteful act is still relevant to present society. As seen in the writings of Rick Bass and Robert G. Schreiner through many comparisons and differences, imagery, deeper meanings, stances, and views, the debate of hunting is a controversial matter.…

Deer hunting is a great sport I love the excitement and the rush that you get from an animal. I am always looking to improve on techniques for being quiet when the deer are approaching my stand I like to stand when a deer is coming than sitting down because it gives me more room and I can pull my bow a lot easier than sitting down. But some hunters like to sit down so they don’t scare the deer away, but I think it’s more of a challenge to do. As a deer hunter there is a right time and a wrong time for standing up when you are in an treestand like for one reason it’s a risky maneuver when you are trying not to spook a deer when standing up.…

Sadly, we couldn’t get a shot because it was still way too dark but it definitely got my adrenaline going. That was the exact moment I knew I was going to love hunting. When we finally got to the stand, I crawled up the ladder and sat down on the seat that my dad had provided for me, anxiously waiting for my time to prove that I really could be a hunter. I set my .270 in the corner and sat there patiently waiting for the sun to rise. Watching the sun rise over the horizon was breathtaking.…

My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…
