Destiny controls Young Goodman Browns actions. In Young Goodman Brown, Brown’s destiny is to go into the woods and become a Satanist. Brown goes into the woods to spite his better judgement and his wife telling him not to go. Once in the woods he meets a rival sense, Old Goodman Brown, telling him to go and become a Satanist. However, as the two men start traveling into the woods Brown starts to regret his choices. He turns to go back remarking, “…I will yet stand firm against the devil!” (lawn 7) at this point brown is defying his destiny, but as he is leaving to woods he finds his wife’s hair ribbon in a tree. After this he goes deep into the woods where he eventually finds her at the satanic meeting which he was trying to turn away from.
