It is no secret that this world still has its share of racial discrimination. For some students, depending on the location and mix of ethnicity, this can have a huge impact on their ability to learn and progress in the system. For example, an African-American student attending a predominately-Caucasian school is faced with all kinds of racial discrimination. Mainly during adolescence, when children learn all kinds of prejudice behavior from their parents. The typical stereotypes are that all African-Americans are poor, lazy, and uneducated. They are in trouble with law enforcement and lack any ambition to better themselves. In addition, they are made fun of the way they look and the color of their skin. The sad part is that these students start out struggling to fit in to a social class they are told is not for them. For this reason, some kids go along with the bullying for fear of retribution from their friends. However, this can have disastrous consequences on a schoolmate who is the target of discrimination. Not only are they struggling as a minority, they have to deal with the racial bullying from their peers as well. On the bright side, most teachers can encourage minority students to ignore racial bullying and harassment by not acknowledging the behavior and reporting it to a person of authority right away.
