Potential energy means that an object has the power to act a certain way and has the ability to produce work (“what is energy”, 2015). Kinetic energy means that an object is in motion and is producing work (“what is energy”, 2015). An example of an object having kinetic energy is a Frisbee flying through the air, it has kinetic energy because it is in motion. An example of potential energy is a swimmer standing on top of a diving board. The swimmer has the ability to jump of fall off and has the potential to go in action. The swimmers energy will not be released until the swimmer dives in. The things that affects how much potential energy an object has is its position (“what is energy”, 2015). An object sitting at the top of a hill has a larger amount of potential energy than an object positioned at the bottom of the hill.
