If one is honest, this includes telling the truth in public and private settings. For instance, admitting a mistake or returning money to a cashier because she/he handed you too much money in return for your purchase represents being honest. If one is trustworthy this could mean following through with your commitments, obeying the laws, and being consistent with one’s values. In the workplace, leaders, managers and administrators can trust that the employees will follow through with their work commitments. At the present time, an executive director is in the process of firing (quietly getting rid of) four current employees within the organization to then hire his vendor friend to fill the positions. This vendor is currently working for the organization under contract. Even so, this director has formed a very close relationship with the vendor and is in the process of hiring this vendor and other employees as organizational employees to replace the four current employees he is letting go of. Though the director has explained he is restructuring the organization, those of us who are in the mists of losing our jobs, have been placed in a very difficult position. Continuing to perform our job duties daily, even though the thought of not knowing when our last day will be, trying to stay positive and not bring down the morale of others or to cause them to worry is an added stress and a situation in which this director has handled his “power” very unprofessionally. Another example taken from my work environment, is that of a lower level director who is known for promoting his friends in the organization as other employees are held back. Both examples lower morale and cause employee resentment. These are examples of a administrator who holds his interests above the valves and the interests of the organizations and has no respect for the employees who have carried the organization’s vision
