Many Proverbs suggest that if you gain wealth by dishonourable ways, you will end up poor yourself. Proverbs 28:8 claims, “if you get rich by charging interest and taking advantage of people, your wealth will go to someone who is kind to the poor” and Proverbs 22:16 says, “If you make gifts to rich people or oppress the poor to get rich, you will become poor yourself.” People can even become so greedy that they “do not know when poverty is about to strike” (Proverbs 28:22). Albeit, the saddest part about greed is that it is never satisfied. We want more money because we think it is good, but in reality, too much of it is dangerous: As Proverbs states, “Never eat more honey than you need; too much may make you vomit” (25:16). As humans, we are weak. We always desire more, make bad decisions, and hurt ourselves and others. I believe that these reasons are why people are often referred to as sheep in the Bible. We need to be guided by a shepherd or else are greed will take over and we will be lost in the desires of the
