According to Dora (2016) there is one major benefit of IQ tests, “...can identify gifted students as early as pre-school or kindergarten” (p. 1). This is important because some gifted students drop out of school because it is too easy, so if they know that they are unique they could just take more advanced classes. Another benefit of intelligence testing is according to Lewis is as follows, “The cognitive profile will reveal his or her strengths” (p. 1). Knowing this will also help the child discover his weaknesses as well, so he or she can work on those and build them up. However, there are also a few limitations to intelligence testing. Dora (2016) states, “...typically IQ tests only measure verbal and mathematical abilities” (p. 1). This is a disadvantage because there are more types of intelligences than verbal and mathematical. An article by Ireland (2013) states another major limitation of IQ tests, “A student may believe that she is "stupid" or less intelligent than her peers when it isn 't her fault” (p. 1). Not only that, but students with high IQ’s might not try because they may believe they cannot get any smarter. These are the main benefits and limitations to intelligences tests. After my research, I think that IQ tests should not be required in school, and only be taken on your free time if you so
