Most schools require students to play sports because they play a significant role in student’s life in many different ways. I consider sports not necessary a class rather than an extracurricular activity because students often learn more by playing sports than learning in class. In order to provide better education, the school needs to emphasize the importance of sports in student’s life physically, but also mentally.
Playing sports is an advantage given to students because it helps them to make friends who are not in their grade easily. Other than in math or a language class, it is hard for students to hang out or talk to someone who is in a different grade. However, students will not face a problem in these situations if they play sports. Every sport requires perfect teamwork, which includes collaborating with each other, and communicating with players. For example, to pass a ball, a player needs to talk with one another. Also, to make a goal, players need to work together as a team. However, I think Episcopal will not exist as a community if we did not have sports. It will rather exist as individuals in different groups. We will not have spirit week, Woodberry game will not be as significant, and we will care less about others and focus on ourselves. In fact, students learn most effectively by playing sports than learning in other classes. It teaches things that can be only learned by playing sports such as the right way to communicate with people and an efficient method to work together. I love how we have requirements for sports and how EHS helps students to play sports that they have never played before. As much as friends can change one’s life, for some, sports are the primary cause that led them to become who they are

Unity is a rarity in high schools, and with the addition of sports, there is even greater division as some individuals place themselves “in a separate, untouchable category” (Source 3). Sports have been great fuel to the already existing fire of cliques and exclusion of many types. These extracurriculars have helped to damage what is the already broken schooling system. And while some aspects of sports can be beneficial to a student, they can also be very harmful in an extreme dosage.…

High School Sports Should high schools be all about education, and grades? I couldn’t see myself getting up in the morning excited to learn trigonometry. Let alone be happy in a place like my school. My point would be that I only come to school because I find motivation in the sports that this school has to offer. I tell myself I have to turn my homework in, or I need to read this page, and study so I can pass my test to play Friday night.…

In today’s world, sports are embedded in American school districts more than ever before. Although many students rely on physical activities to relieve their stress; studies have concluded that they are blocking the study time for tests, causing intelligent students to fail their classes. Therefore, districts should get rid of after class sports because athletic programs put a heavy financial load on the community, physical exercise causes distraction from learning, and students will have more time to get their homework done. The immense costs of physical activities have made many districts conclude that they should be spending their money on better education rather than sports.…

If schools eliminated high school sports, many children would be unable to participate in club organizations. “In an overview of the research on non school based after school programs, Gardner, Roth and Brooks-Gunn find that disadvantaged children participate in these programs at significantly lower rates. They find that low income students have less access due to challenges with regard to transportation, non-nominal fees and off-campus safety. Therefore, reducing or eliminating these opportunities would most likely deprived disadvantaged students of the benefits from athletic participation” (Daniel Bowen and Collin Hitt - High School sports aren't killing Academics). This passage sums up why high school sports are needed along with club sports.…

Middle schools across the country should offer more competitive sports programs. School sports teams have usually been viewed as a high school activity. Recently, children have been put in competitive sports at a younger age, making them want to participate in competitive sports sooner in their athletic career. Waiting until high school to compete in sports can make students impatient and become less interested in their sports. Middle school sports provide an enhanced physical state, increased social interaction, and better high school programs for the students.…

Imagine a high school athlete, head spinning from tests and quizzes and homework grades, mind swimming with due dates and deadlines, trying not only to balance the hardships high school offers but also juggling his passion of football. Imagine after all his hard work, one of his grades slipped and now he is forced to cut his sport. Do students really deserve this kind of pressure? That is why the no pass, no play rule is a ridiculous rule to follow, since not only does this add extra stress to an average person's head, this rule also completely ignores the fact that students who have learning disabilities and use sports as an escape from their struggles are stripped away of their passion. Sports also has many benefits that not even school can…

Sport participation in school does not worsen academic results despite taking time away from class (Maximizing the Benefits of Youth Sport). Athletes know that they don’t have as much time to do schoolwork, which makes them more motivated to use their time for school. Students that aren’t athletes don’t use their free time for school which makes them less likely to do quality schoolwork.…
