By simply wearing a tactical communications device during an operation the law enforcement user has constant protection from any impulse noise, which can occur at any time and without warning, retains full communications (transmit & receive) and maintains full situational awareness via the hear-through function. An unexpected impulse noise event is capable of temporarily disabling and disorienting the law enforcement officer, causing confusion, distraction, and increasing vulnerability in an already uncertain environment. The law enforcement officer’s situational awareness has been compromised, putting him/her in greater danger and reducing his/her ability to perform as required. With a capable headset, the user can save many lives …show more content…
Fortunately, the immediate effect did not threaten his safety (he shot the bad guy). However, had he completely damaged his hearing it could have taken him off his aim and eliminated his situational awareness, placing him (and innocent bystanders) in a situation where a violent criminal could easily have fatally attacked the officer or others. This is one real world example in which wearing a tactical communications device could save a life. Reduces Injury On a patrol an officer needs to be able to communicate on a cell phone, communicate on his radio, have full awareness of the environment around him (we call this 360-degree situational awareness), communicate verbally with the good citizens and the bad criminals, and her/his partners. These requirements all but eliminate the practicality of wearing hearing protection. The problem is that if they are in a noisy environment or a gunfight, their hearing is susceptible to permanent damage. The tactical communications device solution allows them to communicate still without losing situational awareness while still protecting their hearing from potential …show more content…
According to the FBI the rate of officer assaults in 2013 was 9.3 per 100 sworn officers. Even if only one officer was saved from injury the tactical robot is justified.
Reduces Liability
Reduced liability in Jeffersontown Police Officers is one of the primary key selling points for this proposition. In one actual random event in Southern California in 2003, an officer lost 30% of his hearing when we fired his patrol rifle without any hearing protection. Had he been wearing a tactical communications device, he would have his hearing, and the City of Irvine would have saved $1,000s (if not $100,000s) in disability. Although it’s cliché, the underlying message with our proposal is an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Regional Sharing
Jeffersontown is a suburb of the city of Louisville Metro and has a memorandum of understanding to share resources with surrounding agencies in the region, including: the Kentucky State Police, Louisville Metro Police, St. Matthews Police, Shively Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Anchorage Police Departments. There have been numerous incidents requiring mutual aid and most recently on January 8th, 2016 the City of Shively requested assistance to an incident where one of their police officers was shot while executing a search warrant. In addition, on December 26th, 2015 the St. Matthews Police Department requested
