A college student, in the twenty-first century, has grown coincidently with the growth of technology. Technological advancements have dictated our rate of development as a society, and search engines are just one of those developments, specifically Google. Why reject that advancement? Students today are not exactly as dependent on physical books as they once were. While students should still learn how to manipulate and utilize encyclopedias and dictionaries, sites like Google have become more a more prominent and easier resource in the educating process. Perhaps that may be because search engines permit the insertion of a specific question, and in return, the receiving of a specific answer. When scrolling through the book, one if forced to think of the question in which the answer can be found in that book. Aside from just a reliable and resourceful, research tool, Google can answer the most complex or simplistic of inquiries. On top of providing answers, the site provides a myriad selection of options, for the user to select. For example, if a user was to ask, “What is the nearest restaurant?” As opposed to just shooting out an answer of one restaurant, a list of different cuisines, maps and contact information will be generated, thus easing the burden of making the decision of where to eat. Anything can be found on Google, whether it is a what’s near me type of question, an academic inquiry or even the search for an episode of your favorite show. It can all be found with the click of a button and an extremely succinct search through a menu of hyperlinks. Google provides a great service for all those who use it. At one point in history, research could take hours on end. Today, the amount of time it takes to find information is cut down significantly, and more importantly, it offers a more specific set of answers. There are people who claim using search engines undermines the process of studying and researching. However, that does not appear to be true. Search engines do not change nor provide simplified versions of information. All these sites do is permit user to narrow down a search on discovering an answer to the question. They do not take away
