Shakespeare wrote multiple plays in which encompasses tragedies. These tragedies shared common idea such as death, a bad influence, and somebody who falls from following this influence. Macbeth is included in the tragedy category. This play starts off with the witches, who are the not so helpful influences in the play Macbeth. As the play goes on you meet the main character, Macbeth, in act one scene three. The first witch exclaims to Macbeth “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis” (Shakespeare 12)! Then the second witch says “All hail, Macbeth, hail to the, thane of Cawdor” (Shakespeare 12)! Macbeth is startled by this although it should be an honor to him. During her sleepwalks she speaks and wanders around the house. Not only does she speak, sometimes the words spoken are true and harmful to her. Lady Macbeth while sleepwalking says “Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him” (Shakespeare 98). Lady Macbeth is talking about the killing of king Duncan. As it can be seen later on in scene one where Lady Macbeth utters these words “Wash your hands, put on your nightgown; look not so pale. I tell you yet again, Banquo's buried; he cannot come out on's grave” (Shakespeare 99). On the other hand, the Gentlewomen and Doctor are there to figure out if Lady Macbeth needs a Physician. The Gentlewoman was concerned for Lady Macbeth thinking that she was sick and needed medical help for the Doctor. In the event that the doctor and gentlewoman overheard this conversation Lady Macbeth was having, the doctor said “More needs she the divine than the physician” (Shakespeare 100). The divine is different from a physician. Divine is a holy figure or a spiritual leader. Likewise a divine person isn't going to prescribe a medication, but provide healing through spiritual prayers. Unlike a physician who will provide medical attention and give information on how your illness can or cannot be treated.
