We all have a positive and a negative side. From birth, we are subjected to certain moral, social ,cultural boundaries in an attempt to live a modest life by fair means. The evil characters in the books or on screen do whatever they want to no matter how atrocious or immoral their acts might be. We are often able to identify the aspects of the villain with ourselves. It is only then when we confront our dark sides that we emerge out of it. This is a potential reason why we are drawn to evil characters. Another reason is our inquisitiveness about the villain’s background, why they do what they do, if they have a sympathetic side and if they do then why and how it has been suppressed, if they feel remorse or guilt at all. Their character intrigues us because their principles and thoughts are alien to the common good people. Nonetheless, the evil acts by the villains are unpardonable and disgraceful.
