The Last Night Of Bayllyhoo Play Analysis

The Last Night of Ballyhoo was a play well done by the ensemble at the Quintero theatre for several reasons. The costumes, lighting, set, body language, and music all played a role in the development of the play and conveying the theme of anti-Semitism internalized in the Jewish community and to embrace one's heritage despite the hardships that one may face. The protagonist - Sunny- and antagonist of the play- Boo- displayed their motives well through the delivery of dialogue, therefore their motivations were clear. As part of the audience, I believe the best actor was Reba played by Lauren Ufkes and the least captivating to watch was Peachy played by Troy Beckman due to a few reasons. The theme of The Last Night of Bayllyhoo that I gathered …show more content…
Boo was motivated o get her daughter married and she also pushed her to become popular. However, Lala's characteristics did not help her climb the social ladder as well as Sunny. Sunny's charm and her external features led to more attention from males and captured Joe's attention that led to conflict among Lala and Sunny. I enjoyed seeing the conflict unfold because the antagonist and protagonist were not clearly spelled out throughout the play. All the characters were flawed which led to a dynamic performance by the actors. This was essential in keeping the audience's attention since there were not many actors or characters. I thought the best actor in the duration of the play was Lauren Ufkes who played Reba. Her performance stood out to me because of the timing of her one liner's that was crucial to the comedic facet of the play. Without her natural delivery of her lines, the laughable parts of the play would fall short and it would seem like the play is dragging on. She never takes the scene away from the other actors but weaves her character generously through the acts. I think she was best suited to play the role of Reba. Conversely, I wasn't particularly intrigued by the actions of Peachy played by Troy Beckman. There were several stand out actions such as his nuances for mischief that I enjoyed as well as the way he delivered some lines by actions that were specific to his characters- jumping and clapping his hands when he fooled someone- however, some of his other actions fell short. His performance was done well, but his energy was pushed to the background when he stood alongside Lala's dominant vitality whom he shared many scenes

On the evening of Saturday October 8th, the cast of the play Fuddy Meers took the stage and put on a unique and exquisite performance. The play took place in the Temple Theatre which I found was a highly interesting venue. There were several different elements that I found greatly intriguing during the course of the ninety minute performance, however, there were a few elements that I felt were also lacking. The first element that I believed helped to add significance to the performance was the stage setup(1). The revolving setup of the stage was perfect for this play and it allowed much versatility for the characters during specific instances.…

Lavinia played by Kate Lydic was praised, “Kate Lydic imparts memorable dimensionality to Lavina despite not having the ability to speak for much of the play”(Richards). Though Lavinia didn’t have many lines, she still did a memorable job and had a good use of body to convey emotion. The New York Times says that Brandan Averett was “excellent”, and Gretchen Egolf was “fabulous” (Gates), Tamora and Titus are the leads in the play, and both got short praises. The use of language by the cast was praised ,“These actors demonstrate their craft so well there is nothing intimidating about the language. With double entendre galore and raw emotion already present in the language, this team brings the incredible words to life”(Roberts).…

Furthermore, the stage setup was utilized well. With the stage in the middle, they had three sides of audience seats that surrounded the stage. I thought this set up made the play more interactive and able to focus on the main character more closely. The lighting for this play was used effectively as well.…

Two particular actors who played the characters of “Andrew Jackson” and “Rachel” did a fantastic job. The actor who played “Andrew Jackson” did a great job of remembering all of his lines and important factual information he had to retain. In addition, he added a “spunk” feel to Andrew Jackson making him feel more modern and “hip”. I personally think that “spunk” allowed me to relate to him more. Furthermore, the actress who played “Rachel” did a fantastic job of staying into character even in the scenes that she was not on stage and in the crowd.…

I was extremely excited to watch Brooklyn College’s rendition of Speech and Debate. The reasoning behind my excitement was that whilst reading the play written by Stephan Karam, I quickly realized that it’s humor and authenticity were aspects that I typically enjoy to a great extent in stories, whether that be in the form of a television show, movie, or play. I also felt that I was readily prepared to watch the show meticulously and focus on its acting and casting aspects. I chose the acting facet of the production to be the focal point of my review yet again because I understand that I could have pushed further and been more detail oriented when writing my previous review. Brooklyn College’s Speech and Debate had a small cast of four actors.…

In addition, there was also Lydia, playing the role of Bigger’s sister, Vera and everything that she was saying was great, but as a sister she spoke very harsh about Bigger and as family people usually try to protect each other. However, she gave specific evidence of how Bigger would act out and he never understood the struggles the family was going through, and doing illegal gang activities with never working to help out the family. I rated her performance out of 4 because she did very good, kept up with the act of being his sister and trying to make sure that what she says come from a family perspective. Apart from Kendall and Lydia, there was also Sherialle, who played the role of Peggy, the housekeeper of the Daltons. She kept saying that Bigger was quiet but would leave off…

Gone Home is a narrative exploration game by the company Fullbright that stars Kaitlin Greenbriar returning to her family home after being overseas. Gone Home is often questioned on the complexity of its game play, and is often thought to be more of an interactive story, however it does fulfill the requirements of a game and I will be discussing various game play mechanics in Gone Home such as the different objects and their attributes, rules for game play and the overall design that help to support the narrative, as well as how all of this is used to create an effective story and why this is the best medium for such a story. I will start by giving the briefest of summaries; the game opens with Kaitlin, who we control in a first person perspective, returning home to a locked house all set in the 90s Their is a note left…
