Exploring Wendy Parsons's Nursing Career

Wendy Parsons grew up in the small town of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She had a brother, whom both enjoyed playing various sports. When she was twelve years old, she and her family moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and attended Brentwood high school. Her father, Gene Windham, was given the job as assistant coach of Vanderbilt University football team. During Wendy’s senior year of high school, she applied to four different colleges Ole Miss, the University of Alabama, Vanderbilt, and the University of Tennessee. She was accepted to all four. Wendy was torn on majoring in communications or nursing. After much thought, she chose nursing. Wendy then decided to attend Vanderbilt University because it offered a high ranking nursing program, and it was close to home. At eighteen years old, 1980, Wendy began her first year of college. The next four years went by in a flash. Her freshman year, she worked harder than she ever had in her life. She spent hours on end studying. She …show more content…
They enjoyed going to many Bible studies together, traveling the world on breaks, and joining a sorority. Wendy’s social life was just beginning. Her junior year, she began clinicals, which was full of hard work and focus. Her senior year, was by far her favorite though. Her younger brother had just began his freshman year at Vanderbilt, and played for the football team. Wendy decided, since her brother and father were both involved in the Vanderbilt football team, she might as well join them. She tried out and made Vanderbilt’s football cheerleading team. She loved every football saturday she spent with her family. According to Wendy, cheerleading gave her the confidence and joy she has in her job today. Wendy, also, began getting very involved in Young Life. She spent the little free time she had, attending Club and going on other Young Life trips. She graduated in 1984 from Vanderbilt University with a B.S.N. in
