Pleasure and happiness create a joyful feeling in the audience. The author describes the vast detail of the island in a peaceful mellow mood- “it was clear to the bottom and bright with the efflorescence of tropical weed and coral ” ( 12 ). Describing a vast island creates a vivid setting to the story and makes the story come alive. For instance, the quote “Out there, perhaps a mile away, the white surf flinked on a coral reef, and beyond that the open sea was dark blue” (10). The Lord of the Flies, at times, portrays a feeling of pleasure by immense detail of the each and the island.
Furthermore, savagery is hidden inside civilization, when laws and rules disappear-ferociousness appears.When Ralph was finally entered back into civilization, savagery became hidden and innocence reappeared. “Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true wise friend” (202). Even though Ralph regrets savagery, he previously acted on impulse and was uncivilized. To illustrate, in this quote “Ralph carried away by a sudden thick excitement, grabbed Eric’s spear and jabbed at Robert with it” (114).
