-The Misfit
The first time I read this story, diligently, I glazed over it, along The Misfit, when he presented himself. But every moment afterwards, became unnerving, electrifying, the hairs on the back of my neck were raising as if I had realized something that wasn't fully conscious yet.
First he did something outlandish and compared himself to Jesus, and even went on to say that Jesus didn't do any crime they could prove, and he had committed a crime because they had the papers to prove it, I don't see a difference between the two statements.
"They never shown me my papers. That's why I sign myself now. I said long ago, you get you a signature and sign everything you do and keep a copy of it. Then you'll know what you done and you can hold up the crime to the punishment and see do they match and in the end you'll have something to prove you ain't been treated right." There is an allusion to the bible, John 3:16 God gave his only begotten son, so that we could have everlasting life...So he's saying here, you can throw all of your WORDLY materials, ideals, desires away to follow him, if that promise was true, if not (you'll never know) Then disregard everything and enjoy your life how you choose too. He clearly chose the second option, to live his live enjoyably, by doing some kind of mean to his fellow men. He says"No pleasure but meanness" as if he isn't doing it for pleasure? He is doing it strictly because it needs to be done? to justify the injustice that he has
