The Moose

Have you ever seen a moose that has fur so dark that it almost looks dark red or even black? Moose have very dark brown fur. They are known for their big head and huge antlers. The male moose are called bulls and the females are cows. Moose can be 7 feet tall at the shoulders. These animals have a stubby tail and skinny legs. Their legs have a hard time holding up their body weight. Moose are the largest member of the deer family. The biggest bulls can weigh nearly a ton! A ton is as much as a van which is about 2000 pounds! That's why they spend a lot of their time in water. Under their chin is a piece of skin that is called a bell.

Moose live in the forests of Northern Russia. They also live in Alaska's Rocky Mountains.
