who lies and loses her respect throughout the school. Most people who have watched this movie
know that it’s trying to compare itself to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s famous book The Scarlet Letter.
The movie compares itself in some well thought out ways like how Olive is an outcast from her

Easy A, on the other hand, doesn’t use as many advanced words as much as Hawthorne does.
The movie occasionally uses a complicated word as a way to reference Hawthorne’s writing but
they go straight back to talking in a more simple manner than in Scarlet Letter. One could argue
that they didn’t use many large words because people wouldn’t understand them but the movie
makes constant reminders to the viewers of the film how the movie is like The Scarlet Letter, this
would make people want to watch the movie because it involves this book yet they don’t use the
words like Hawthorne did when he wrote it. That isn’t the worst thing the movie did. The
protagonist in this film is barely related to Hawthorne’s original story.
The plot of Nathanial Hawthorne’s story is an original storyline and idea that many
people use as a way to base some of their stories. The film wasn’t related to it much at all. Hester
Prynne is the protagonist in Hawthorne’s story. She was punished for giving birth to a child
through the sinful act of adultery and is sworn to wear a scarlet A for the rest of her life.
