Not to mention, in this collectivist society, you can’t fulfill your selfishness, your desires in life nor your ego. This society has kept all brothers of the state enchained and with a collective viewpoint until when one brother, Equality 7-2521 seeks to change. Through this character, Ayn Rand manifests her philosophy of morality, selfishness, and objectivism. In the book, Anthem, she states, “I do not surrender my treasures, nor do I share them. The fortune of my spirit is not to be blown into coins of brass and flung to the winds as alms for the poor of the spirit. I guard my treasures: my thought, my will, my freedom. And the greatest of these is freedom. (11.11)” This shows how Equality’s view has changed from the start. In these times, he proclaims that one must find our treasure, in this case, being his individualistic and selfish thoughts, his will and freedom. Once you find, them you can't let them go away and you have to fight for them not to be taken away. This implies that his selfishness and individualistic view brings him happiness which is part of his treasure.
