If I had to choose Christmas is my favorite holiday. The lights, decorations, family gatherings and gift giving makes this holiday very significant to me. Every year our family pick the perfect tree for our home. When we return home, Christmas music is playing in the background, everyone has smiles while drinking hot cocoa. This family tradition holds a special place in my heart as our family looks forward to this day every year. Some family's have different traditions, for instance, attending the famous ballet " The Nutcracker" written by P.I. Tchaikovsky. When I observe ballet it seems very soft and graceful. I have had childhood friends that express differently about this particular art. They have told me that it is actually a physical and

In the summary of the story, “Dicken’s: A Christmas Carol”, the main theme of the story is to have compassion and forgive people and also, giving the second chance. This is projected by making the main character a bad person then making him turn good, having everyone forgive him for the person he was and, changing himself into a positive person. In the poem, “Who is Ebenezer Scrooge?” by Simone Brooklyn, she is trying to convey the concept that we humans tend to assume what other people are like without really knowing who they really…

Kristina Snyder Ms. Maylett Honors Freshmen English/Period 7 8 October 2015 Graceful Growth When my teacher Ms. Erin first pulled me aside after class to tell me I would be Clara in The Nutcracker, squealing with joy, I grinned from ear to ear, hardly able to contain my excitement. I can still remember learning and practicing all the complicated steps, buying my own glittery nutcracker to use for the performances, and getting fit for the baby pink costume and soft, chiffon, white dress. Tiptoeing backstage as I warmed up, the warmth of the lights hugging my skin, and the glimmer of my white nightgown, these performances gave me memories as everlasting as the ocean’s tides. That weekend only one thing held me back, the pain of sharp needles…

One of maybe the most popular Christmas songs ever was “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” The song “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” is based off of the remarkable book that went viral, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Since Rudolph is such a misfit, it ties to the author, Robert L. May, of being the shortest, tiniest boy in his class. This wonderful Christmas special sold Montgomery Ward, a retail company, 2.4 million copies of this misfit inspiring story. In this book it shows that Rudolph has an interesting feature, his red, glowing up nose, could be used for a Christmas miracle and not just be used for other reindeer making fun of his unique nose to make them feel better about themselves.…

The traditional view of art has changed over time just as most things have. Naturally, the act of perception has differed opinions on what society considers as art. Dance, paintings, photography, drawings, music, literature, and sculpting, are what comes to mind when contemplating the aspects of art. The limitation to defining a word so opinionated leaves out room for self-expression. The traditional ideas of what is considered art should be broadened; granted, although not tangible, art can be seen through ambitions, emotions, and expression through appearances when not limited to the customary definition.…

Many neuroscientists hold that humans reconstruct their memories and diverge from authenticity through continuous recollection (Radiolab, 2010). Moreover, the brain’s preference for consonance causes dissonance to agitate nerves (Radiolab, 2010). To illustrate, before the first performance of the Rite of Spring, Stravinsky described it as a “concert about springtime”, when in reality, it was about “radical change and ritual murder” (Radiolab, 2010). The audience’s perception was contradicted from their physical memory of reading about the ballet, thus provoking a riot. The following year, the Rite of Spring was presented a second time, and the audience was aware of the nature of the performance, and thus, a riot never occurred (Radiolab, 2010).…

In dance, it is imperative that dancers use expression and acting. A dance should tell a story and evoke feelings in the audience without a script, just movement. It is often paired with music to enhance the dramatic aspect of dancing. Countless choreographers such as George Balanchine and Martha Graham are known for being artistic and dramatic in their movements (“Martha Graham: The Mother of Modern Dance”). Dance originated as a performance for an audience, not being judged at competitions.…
