If the caring of a child is the universal function of the family (page 310), then it is imperative to have the education,commitment, and financial resources to nurture it in the most beneficial way possible (for both parent and child). Lest, the child may be born to resentful parents who disfigure the child apathy and no desire/thought of bettering themselves or society (and this cycle could continue for generations). According to census, 16%-17% of women will go through their child-bearing years without being pregnant, and 20% of women are expected in their 30’s to remain childless (pg.315). Arguably, this trend will continue to rise as many Millennials ‘wait longer to have kids to receive degrees and work toward financial stability. Although many may view that those who do not have children as having regrets and being unhappy, however that is simply not the case. A report from Princeton University and Stony Brook University published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science reported very little difference in life satisfaction between child or childless families (http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/14/living/parents-happiness-child-free-studies/). This entirely goes against the superficial norm of the joys of children in the family as shown in media such as ‘The
