A dog owner in many households might spray the dog with water to teach them what they are doing is wrong, just as a child might get a timeout to prove that what they are doing is wrong. That kind of discipline is one thing, but dogfighting owners do things completely different. They abuse, beat, starve, and neglect these animals to develop aggression. Not only that, but the children that grow up around this behavior don't know any different, and when they are older the child will mistreat animals and could even be the cause of some domestic abuse. “The dog runs for up to an hour at a time--sometimes several times a day--on a treadmill. Its jaws are strengthened with “spring poles”, hung from a tree with a lure” (Simpson). The dogs are trained day and night for a match that they could lose and die in, all for the amusement of the owner. Many dogs are pumped full of drugs, and are still being trained when they are hurt. “At Fricchione home, investigators found canine treadmills and 18 pitbulls- many of them scarred, and one with a fractured jaw--and steroids investigators believe he fed to the dogs” (Simpson). Not only are these animals being worked extremely hard, but they are receiving steroids, and have broken bones. The dogs are being so mistreated and hurt that they don't know that what is happening is wrong. …show more content…

When the first pit bulls came to America by English and Irish immigrants, they were a respected breed”. Also in the Blog it says that “They were kept as hunters and guardians, as well as herders and pets” .PitBulls loved their owners and will do anything to protect them. One thing that I disagree with is that in the Newspaper Editorial source four it said that “New outlets consistently tell animal control officers that they will not cover a dog attack unless the situation was caused by a pit bull ” . I think that this is unfair because one there are many other types of dogs that are dangerous and that hurt people, and the animal officers won’t attend to the problem.…

Other tactics to help their dog win are to inject them with steroids, and cut off their ears so other dogs cannot hold on. Another way to encourage aggression is to starve the dogs, keep them penned or chained on a really heavy chain. These dogs have no human contact other than when they are being trained.…

Many years ago, pit bulls were considered “Nanny dogs” because of their loyalty and gentleness toward their guardians. They were also once an American favorite, earning the title “America’s dog. ”Unfortunately, people soon found ways to exploit pit bulls’ behaviors and tendencies for dog fights, and their strong appearance became a symbol of violence, drug culture and gangs. Today, pitbulls remain largely misunderstood because of irresponsible owners. As a result, breed specific legislation has popped up in cities across the U.S. that either greatly restricts or completely bans pit bull dogs as pets.…

American Humane also encourages dog owners to undergo basic obedience training with their pets and to socialize them with people and other animals from an early age. By definition, dangerous dogs are dogs that, without provocation, have attacked or behaved in a terrorizing manner. In order to protect the public from these types of animals, communities may legitimately enact “dangerous dog” laws. Such laws may impose reasonable restrictions on dogs proven to be dangerous, such as housing requirements, fencing, leash length restrictions, muzzles, posted warning signs, sterilization, additional licensing, behavior training and liability insurance…

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (ASPCA) Pitbull’s were bred for bull-baiting and bear-baiting. They were bred to hold these large animals by the face in the United Kingdom. When this had become illegal in the late 1800s, people decided a new fate for these companions, which was fighting.…

In more modern times, pit bulls have been assumed dangerous and vicious. They have been avoided and several laws have been made against them, almost to the point where people are not allowed to keep pit bulls as pets.
