Censorship has been in civilizations since people created writing. However, there have always been ways to circumnavigate these government censors, and spread contraband to other people in the state. In the modern era, Internet censorship has been a topic of discussion by those in favor of government censorship, and those against; each referring back to some form of legislation passed to defend its side. Though some people view the censorship in the United States as being too strict, it is one of the most free countries in the world compared to countries under Communist rule such as China and North Korea. The dark web is a space within the deep web where child pornography, snuff videos, and other illegal and horrifying acts take place, sometimes live on a webcam. The deep web itself is a wide array of websites that have been put out of use, carry out less violent illegal activities such as the buying and selling of medical supplies and drugs, and any other actions with which a person does not want to have a connection (Beckett). Programs such as Freenet are often banned in countries where there is a firewall existing to prevent its citizens from looking up contraband items. Users are able to install these programs often by having a friend or relative in another country that does not have the same firewalls in place send a device or attachment in a coded email with the program already installed (Beiser).
