Pro Marijuana Legalization

Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the United States and it is known to be green and dried shredded plants called Cannabis sativa also known as a hemp plant (NIDA 2016). The most common user of Marijuana are young adults and adolescents typically in either middle or high school (NIDA 2016). Marijuana is known for many slang terms such as weed, pot, bud, ganja, Mary Jane and can be smoke by rolling it in a cigarette called a joint, smoked through a pipe, bongs, or smoke in a cigar called a blunt (NIDA 2016). The chemical that is located in the leaves or buds of a cannabis plant that is the psychoactive component is known as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC for short (NIDA 2016; Hubbard et al., 1999). Also, the violence of the drug war will probably decrease because people are not in competition with one another when it comes down to selling marijuana. Researchers also suggest that marijuana can replace alcohol or other drugs that can cause serious health problems including death (Graham 2014). Because the cost of alcohol is high, people will use less alcohol, which causes accidents and deaths, and more marijuana where car accidents are not as high. Other studies that legalizing marijuana can also decrease suicidal rates because weed can help relax a person’s mind so they won’t feel depress (Graham 2014). Marijuana should also be legalize because it can help with relieving the symptoms such as vomiting and nauseas for patients who are dealing with illness such as cancer or help with increasing their appetite with people with AIDS.
