Through the years the access to abortions has been greatly restricted. In the United States as abortion was made legal, greater access to abortions was provided and, “...the number of deaths per 100,000 abortions dropped from 4.1 in 1973 to .6 in 1997”(Torr 54). The number has decreased greatly due to a greater access to abortions and women can be prevented from hurting themselves. As a woman goes through her pregnancy, the cost of an abortion increases and the availability decreases(Holmes). That causes women to have to work many jobs and borrow money while carrying a child just to pay for an abortion. Women are put at the risk of injuring themselves and, had there been more access to abortions, women would not be put at that risk. In addition to working, women also have to travel for miles upon miles to reach an abortion provider. Young teens who are scared to having a child travel using buses and other unconventional transportations to receive abortions(Holmes). By not looking down upon those who have abortions, teens would not have to use travel using these methods and would be safer. However, sometimes young teens do not find out about their pregnancies until the 20th week, then they are left with no options(Holmes). Some of these young teens are not capable of raising a child and having a child at that point will only make the child and the mother suffer. In the circumstance where a girl is not capable of raising a child, an abortion is necessary. Sadly, women who have been raped have had to deal with the repercussions of the incident and for some women they have also had to deal with raising the child of the rape. The women who have survived a case of rape deserve to have a right to an abortion, but many times they have been turned away only because they came to an abortion provider after the 20th week(Steinberg). These women are forced to go through a pregnancy that reminds them of the pain they had to suffer. In the case of a raped woman who is emotionally unstable, she should not have to have the child. There are also some cases in which an abortion is done to protect the mother from death or other injuries. If a fetus develops wrong, it could harm the women and that is what happened in the case of Mary O’Donnell. Mary O’Donnell was having a healthy pregnancy until the 20th week where the child’s
