College is not for everyone and public schools make you feel like you do not fit in if you do not go to college. Public high schools only have college fairs. They never have job fairs for the students that are not going to college which is not fair. I know a lot of people that have gone to a public school and then to college and dropped out after the first year because college just is not the right fit for them. “I believe it is the rare person that knows what they want to do when they are 17” (Allen). This quote shows that not everyone knows what they want to do and it is ok to take a year off after high school to figure out what you want to do. Some people just do not like school so going another four years is not a good decision. There are good paying jobs out there for people who do not go to college. For example, if you join a union you will most likely have a good paying job and not have to go to college. For example, at my high school you have to take a year of a humanities class, 4 years of health class, 2 years of an art class, and one business class. Being that these classes are required gives students the chance to explore and learn about many different things. Taking a humanities class teaches you how to cook, budget, and take care of children, which are important skills that everyone will need to know how to do in their life. Taking health classes teaches you about your body and how to stay in shape. I took four years of accounting and two years of marketing. If accounting was not required in my school, I would not have found out I like accounting and I want to further my education in business. Overall there are good things and bad things about everything, even public education. Public high schools will have to make a lot of changes to be perfect but they have to follow the rules of the government before they can encourage individual talent.
