Often, native-born Americans formed and enforced a certain stereotype against the wide variety of immigrant groups that have entered our country. Cara, your perspective on Jon viewing himself as American and not a different ethnicity is understood. I have met a few people who genuinely thought of themselves as only American and they disregard their ethnicities. Some said that they do this to avoid stereotypes and a few truly do not know what their actual ethnicity is. The Stereotyping of a Whole Race On September 14th, 2015, a high school freshman named Ahmed Mohamed brought a clock he built himself to his school to exhibit his technical prowess. In Rebecca Skloot’s book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, racial stereotyping against minority patients is predominant in every aspect of health care. Many of these stereotypes in Skloot’s book painted blacks as unintelligent and vulnerable and led to many doctors taking advantage of their patients. Henrietta Lacks was one of these patients and unfortunately doctors made millions off of her cancerous cervix cells without her informed consent. Her cells, named HeLa cells, helped cure the polio virus and contributed to numerous other medical findings, but her and her family received none of the money earned from HeLa cells.
