A lot of people don’t think about the wrongdoings in relationships. When wanting to settle down with a person temptation is something that can mess things up. Demetrius wanted to marry Hermia also, but in the text Shakespeare reveals to the audience that Demetrius has had an affair with Helena. Lysander said, “ Demetrius, I’ll avouch it to his head, Made love to Nedar’s daughter, Helena…” (Shakespeare, 5). In this quote Lysander is trying to stop the marriage between Demetrius and Hermia, so he brings up the affair Demetrius had with Helena. Demetrius is in love with Hermia, but he still went out and had an affair with Helena. This explains why some people have a hard time dealing with temptation. Also in the text Shakespeare shows the audience that Oberon and Titania had an affair with other people too. Oberon and Titania are married but they have been messing around with a couple who is planning on getting married. Titania says, “ Come from the farthest steep of India, But that, forsooth, the bouncing Amazon, Your buskin’d mistress and your warrior love, To Theseus must be wedded, and you come To give their bed joy and prosperity? ( Shakespeare, 18). Titania is saying that Oberon is acting like everything is okay between them two when he has been sleeping with Hippolyta. Helena is in love with Demetrius, but Demetrius is in love with Hermia and Helena is jealous of that relationship and wants to be just like Hermia. “ … My ear should catch your voice, my eye your eye, … O, teach me how you look, and with what art You sway the motion of Demetrius heart” ( Shakespeare, 8). Helena is idolizing Hermia to see how she wins over Demetrius so she can use it to take Demetrius.
