Will you experience a great loss if your family or friends die? Certainly Yes! The speaker in “If he wakes in your arms...” by R.A.S and Shan in “The waiting Man” By Andria Wu both experience a great loss and feel extremely sad. But Shan's loss is greater. Their attitudes towards the girlfriends and puppy at the beginning are completely different. After something happens to the girlfriends and the puppy, their reactions are also different. First, the speaker hates the puppy at first. He tells his wife “I didn't want him...” Noise and mess and bills to pay!””I can't believe I felt that way.” It is important because it shows that the speaker doesn't like the puppy at all at first. The speaker's emotions seem more clam. For example, “:Nothing much that we could do but keep him comfy til he''s through” and “I just didn't care if the vet saw me crying.” It's important because it shows the speaker is sad and disappointed. After knowing fatal illness was detected in his puppy, he had no way to help him. Before saying goodbye to the puppy, the speaker feels heartbroken and cries. However, the situation is different about Shan. For instance, “Shan felt the hairs on the back of his neck prickle and fancied he could hear the slow thu-thump of his terrified heart”,”Shan couldn't breathe.” and “Mad escape from the station.” These quotes are important because these mad and unbelievable actions shows Shan is crazy about death of girlfriend and couldn't be calm any more. He doesn't even realize he dropped the phone. The pace of the heart beating is slow and he nearly stops breathing. The escape is a quick and fast action. Shan escape from the station shows that he is worried and anxious Over all, the speaker is calm and Shan is crazy. Their reactions are different after realizing some terrible things happen to the girlfriend and the dog. So, it is easier to see that Shan experiences greater
