The Walking Dead introduces complex characters that both allows the viewer to picture the cast as their neighbor, teacher, and friend; and ensures that each character possesses traits that viewers can see within themselves. A great character leaves an impact on the viewer and is entertaining to watch at the same time. When a character is heartbroken the viewer should also feel that heartbreak, just as if the character is overjoyed so is the audience. The Walking Dead takes characters to a new level by creating powerful new dynamics to everyday people. Carol before the apocalypse is a loving mom and housewife who unfortunately was beat often by her husband. Her character has evolved into a fighter who lost her daughter and no longer puts up with any disrespect from anyone. Rick has to learn how to be a single dad to two children while striving to protect his group, and attempting to create a normalcy with what little he is given to work with in a post-apocalyptic world. Daryl is portrayed as a hillbilly tough guy, but is found to be loyal and compassionate to those he cares for and still being a hardcore butt kicker.
