Greed is so powerful that it murders some of the closest people to you. Geoffrey Chaucer is the author of The Canterbury Tales which teaches many great life lessons that will go on forever. “The Pardoner’s Tale” educates on the feeling of greed and “ The Wife of Bath’s Tale” expresses what women really want. The reasons why “The Pardoner's Tale” is a better tale is because it is more entertaining and it teaches a better moral that can relate to any individuals life.

This tale is just to confusing for the lesson that it teaches. In the beginning of the story, it says, “and of that maiden, spite of all she said, by very force he took her maidenhead”(Chaucer 63). This means that the knight raped the girl and when the town’s people find out about it he then has one year to reveal what women really want. Now while many think this is a good explanation for what women want, the knight raping the poor girl should not be justified by finding an answer. He should be in a lot of trouble and be put in jail. In “The Pardoner's Tale”, there is just excellent rhythm and flow to pull the story together unlike “The Wife of Bath’s Tale”. The next quote that will back up the opposing story follows, “To have me old and ugly till I die, but still a loyal, true, and humble wife that will never displease you all her life, or would you rather i were young and pretty and chance your arm what happens in a city”(Chaucer 396). This is where the Knight says he does not want to decide and the old lady turns young and pretty and loyal because she has sovereignty over him which is what the story is about. Many believe this is a great example for what women really want but this story concludes in a happily ever after ending after the knight does something someone should be punished for and instead he gets away with it like it’s nothing.
