During this book one of the most effective parts of silence in relationships was with Janie and Logan. So in this case of silence it has had a bad effect on janie by giving Logan all the power over this relationship. When she stays silent and just does what he says all the time and final speaks out he is surprised and is mad she would, in his opinion, disrespect him. This causes him to react very irrational and threaten all these things because he wants to scare her back under is rule. If something like this would’ve happened in a relationship like her third marriage with Tea Cake she would’ve reacted the same way back to him if he threatened to leave her. This is because she realizes the power of her words and knows that if a man is not willing to hear her out she should not be with him. This realization helps her to have equally as much power as her husband in the relationship and allows her to speak her mind eventually making them closer if she is with the right man.
This shows not only in the book but in life, if you are in a healthy relationship you should be able to speak your mind. This is not only to help the relationship become closer but also to allow each person in the relationship to have equally as much power. This book has not only taught me to not let a person gain power through silence but also the power silence can have, both good and bad, on all
