Firstly Roger Rosenblatt uses conflict to develop the theme Moral courage in Man in the water. He does this by having the man have a internal conflict with himself over a tough decision on whether or not he should sacrifice himself. For example the narrator says “Like every other person on that flight he was desperate to live.” Pg.276. This shows how the man had the mind like everyone else. He craved to live just as much as everyone else and still fought his thoughts. Also when the man accepts his death this shows conflict because it is man v.s himself again. By using p.o.v the story is told by the narrator which shows how the man is reacting to everything instead of trying to actually be him. For example in the story it says “This man was described as appearing alert and in control.” pg.276 . That sentence shows how the man was during the incident and allows the reader to visualize what happens in a different p.o.v and how his actions were during the conflict. In like manner the narrator says “He was seen clinging with five other survivors to the tail section of the airplane.” That allows the reader to see from a third person point of view that the man did try unbelievingly still had the courage to put others before himself because he thought it was morally
