Definition: To be under the influence of a substance and lose control of yourself/ your actions and decisions
Reading Analysis: Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools”, demonstrates the term intoxicated completely. In the song, Lamar gets so intoxicated by alcohol he begins to do things that he normally wouldn’t do. In his line, “The freedom is granted as soon as the damage of vodka arrived”, demonstrates this. He begins to lose control of all his inhibitions and gains the freedom to do many things without fear. He is losing control of his rational mind as he continues to drink, therefore he isn’t in control of himself. Also, the song is title “Swimming Pools” and Lamar makes many references to drowning in a swimming pool. For …show more content…
For my definition, I wrote that Death means the termination of something. I don’t look at death in terms of all of the sadness it brings. Instead, I look at it just the end of something, whether it is a human life or the end of a rollercoaster ride. Both are the same in my opinion, even though there would be some debated that one might be sadder about the end of a human life versus the end of a rollercoaster ride. Emily Dickinson seems to take that same approach. Emily Dickinson’s poem “Because I could not stop for Death” doesn’t give a depressing outlook on dying/death. The poem begins with how the narrator doesn’t care about fame or praise for his accomplishments, “When I heard at the close of the day how my name had been receiv’d with plaudits in the capitol, still it was not a happy night for me that follow’d.” This line shows how the narrator did not care about any material types of things like being applauded by his peers for his work instead he became happy when he thought about his lover coming to pay him a visit. Everything in his whole world became better, “O then each breath tasted sweeter, and all that day my food nourish’d me more, and the beautiful day pass’d well.” Instantly everything things like breathing or eating became ten times for satisfying in anticipation of seeing his love. The line, “For the one I love most lay sleeping by me under the same cover in the cool night,” expresses the feeling of love that he has for him. Love is very hard to define because it can mean something different to everyone, but I think the common denominator when it comes to love is that it makes you happy. This poem gives off a tone of just being happy and peaceful because of
