To Build A Fire Structure

Text structure is the way that the author organizes his or her story to make sure that the readers understand the important parts of the story. There are many different text structures that authors can choose from, including, chronological order/ sequential order, problem and solution, compare and contrast, descriptive or spatial, and cause and effect. First of all, the structure that the author chooses to organize the text, determines the style of the story. For example, in the short story, “To Build a Fire”, the story is written in a chronological/ sequential order that makes the story almost like it’s a robot telling it. The structure of “Gumption” is Descriptive, I say this because the entire story is about Clara describing the importance of gumption and describes another family, The Oysters, that do have gumption. Because the author doesn’t have many of the characters speak except for Clara, there is an emphasis on her words. She is the one that describes the meaning, that powerless individuals can make big differences and influence the community.
