The courage to stand up for what you believe. Atticus has the biggest job in Maycomb at that time. His job was to defend a negro which was accused of raping Mayella Ewell. He knew that by doing this it was not going to be an easy task that he would have town 's folks against him for trying to defend a negro.Even after knowing this he still does everything to get Tom a fair trial. Atticus has the courage to keep going thru the trail because he believes in Tom’s innocence while know he and his family may become an outcast from their society.
