Development of Moral Courage
When reading a book choice given to you by a teacher, it's hard to really determine if you like it. Mainly because you know everyone in the classroom has a different intake on the novel. But reading the novel To kill a Mockingbird, different options are what makes reading so much fun. To Kill a Mockingbird first starts off as children who all have the same image of this “dangerous” person they all been hearing so much about and they try so hard to find out more. But when you continue to read the truth of the matter is that's only the underlining idea. It's truly about racism among the community and how it can kill the “mockingbird”. Without a doubt Harper Lee uses setting in her advantage for moral courage, because we are able to see the actual struggle which makes seeing them overcome an obstacle so much more satisfying when reading. “Atticus said professional people were poor because the farmers were poor. As Maycomb County was farm country, nickels and dimes were hard to come by for doctors and dentists and lawyers.”(page 21), Thus showing that the setting is formed around the Great Depression which means times were hard and money didn't come by easy for anyone no matter your profession. “nothing to buy and no money to buy it with, nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb County”(page 5). Additionally added to the fact that this is the Great Depression, Maycomb is also a small town in the south. This all equals to the fact that we are in the era of racism and inequality among the people who live in the town. Therefore rules and class systems were already set in stone, and anyone who dares to go against the morals of the system must be someone with moral …show more content…
Without the use of the characters and setting we would not understand the reality of the situation at hand. Thus giving us such insight we are able to bring in knowledge from previous real life experiences. Moral courage ties into real life because we are all faced with everyday challenge of right and
