Leadership is based on a concept of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage (LDRSHIP). Leaders are role models, because they are able to naturally demonstrate and perform a multitude of attributes and competencies not only for their benefit, but as well as their group. Such attributes include character, presence, and intellect. The three competencies are leads, develops, and achieves. All these combined skills enhanced through training and empowerment, influences not only an individual, but a unit and organization. Adapting to new methods may take time, however this will result in the US ARMY possessing great and effective leaders who are able to think critically and creatively. Given that it is critical for the US ARMY to invest in training it’s leaders, there are inevitable challenges that they face. The problem of educating leaders has grown more complex both technically and politically. The US ARMY is always striving for to advance technical weapons for their leaders and soldiers; however, leaders in higher positions often find potential leaders lacking the basic academic skills needed to perform their specified Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), and to proceed up the career progression ladder. Current leaders that are in the highest ranks do not necessarily possess post-secondary degrees nor the skills needed for an effective leadership. Moreover, there are cases where in commanders display unnecessary problematic behavioral issue that imposes the possibility of failing not only his command, but also his people. Example of these include attendance in universities, trade schools, Basic Leadership Couse (BLC), Advance Leadership Course (ALC), Master Leadership Course (MLC). A trained leader aims to accomplish the task associated with the mission. Training leaders are efficient for a specific job title, because they are taught the Warrior Task and Battle Drills (WTBD) as well as operations. These are skills provided for soldiers to survive in the battlefield. Some examples of Warrior tasks include are weapon training, first aid, and communication. Some examples of battle drills are reacting to contact, reacting to indirect fire, react to ambush etc. Trained leaders are also expected to enforce the standards for their organization. This means that they are responsible for meeting readiness, as well as accomplishing requirements needed prior to deployment, whenever or wherever a war takes place. Some objectives of a trained leader are to develop and strengthens his or her skills and knowledge requires to produce a high-quality outcome for the group. They also possess the ability to confidently train, deploy and lead their subordinates. Training is a traditional concept enforced in all military branches.
