Trainwreck Analysis

By now, you likely know exactly who Amy Schumer is – if for no other reason than she’s been flooding the airwaves with interviews and appearances, not to mention she has this popular sketch comedy TV show on Comedy Central, called Inside Amy Schumer.

The former Last Comic Standing contestant is undoubtedly riding a wave of immense popularity, and with that said, it was only a matter of time before than translated over to film. After all, you have to make your money while you’re “hot,” right?

In Trainwreck, directed by Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up), Amy Schumer (who also wrote the script) stars as Amy Townsend, a journalist by day and an anti-monogamist social mingler by night. From an early age, her father, Gordon (Colin Quinn), embedded the idea into his daughters that monogamy was not possible - a trait that Amy has embraced. On the other hand, Amy's sister, Kim (Brie Larson), has managed to find happiness in marriage.

From there, Amy is reluctant to get involved with Aaron, since she obviously has a fear of relationships. Nevertheless, Aaron is persistent - and eventually the two begin dating. At the same time, Amy struggles with her father's living situation, and sustaining this new relationship-filled life in which she's completely unaccustomed.

Honestly, I've never Amy Schumer's TV show, and after viewing this film, I don't care to, either. While there's plenty of people out there that obviously praise her work, I don't see her as anything more than the "flavor of the week." Much like Melissa McCarthy or Kevin Hart, Schumer is yet another comedian that creates a buzz for herself by being outspoken and overly crass, ultimately leading to media attention. But, like both McCarthy and Hart, Schumer will surely cool off and fade back into the muddled abyss known as

Director Noah Baumbach has had some sort of fascination with Greta Gerwig lately. While his previous film of 2015 didn't feature the actor, three of his last four directorial outings - including this one, Mistress America - have featured her in prominent roles. If you're one of the people who believe that Baumbach is trying desperately to copy Woody Allen, this certainly helps fit that narrative. Allen wasn't - and to some extent still isn't - exactly shy about focusing on one actress over the span of several films. Set in New York - because he's copying Woody Allen, remember - Mistress America follows a college freshman, Tracy (Lola Kirke), who decides to form a friendship with her mother's fiancé’s daughter, Brooke (Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the screenplay), who is more worldly, eccentric, adventurous, and knowledgeable about things than she is.…

Lone Survivor: Speech by Brooke Macrini Brooke Macrini’s speech about Peter Berg’s 2013 film, “Lone Survivor,” gave us a picture of just how excited she was about the film, but also why we should watch it. Some of the key aspects we will be looking at in an evaluation of her delivery are her statements about the film, her actual delivery of the speech, some of the things she did right, and some of the things she could have done better. Brooke’s speech was mainly centered on a couple of key point’s; the camaraderie and brotherhood that is central to the story, the riveting action throughout the entire film, and her own reactions and emotions while watching the film. She focused on the parts of the film that were relatable to her and was keenly able to zero in on the film’s greater theme of brotherhood and the importance that plays not only in the film, but…

Throughout film history, the concept of the unruly woman has not been used until recent times. Before women were portrayed in the same light as men, they were portrayed as proper women who did not use obscene language and did not partake in irrational behavior. Women were usually seen as damsel’s in distress, they were portrayed as weak individuals that served to convey a male’s masculinity. In the recent years, audiences can now see women taking on ‘male characteristics.’ Actresses like Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock, are now the lead roles in comedic movies without having them portrayed as weak individuals, proper ladies, or women that rely on males in order to get through tough times, however, even though unruly women do have the…
