The take away points for both of these scenarios is that I try to be open, real, and genuine. After the nurse coordinator has been with the department for 6 months, she has started learning her position. And, the department now throws call into her job mix. Unfortunately, most coordinators become overwhelmed with the process of call. When I see this, I talk to the coordinator about the apprehension. I let them know that they are on-call with great surgeons and that they will almost walk them through all the processes. Again, emphasizing the team effort.
