My visit to the island of Holbox Quintana Roo has been one of the best experiences I've had in my life. Holbox is a very small island but is visited by thousands of tourists from around the world, is known for its beautiful beaches, its tours to swim with the whale shark, and the learning oportunities to see ocean live. The island is very small but beautiful, not many hotels and a population of less than 1,500 inhabitants. Something very special about this island are the beaches. The color of the water and sand makes an amazing mix of blue and aqua, the texture of the sand is very different from the common sand found at the beach. This sand has a pale pink tone that makes it look gentle enough to walk and feel like you are walking on air. …show more content…
The local hotel offers a tour, about half an hour long where people can swim with the sharks. The tour guides take the tourits to see the whale sharks where they feed, here is where the opportunity to swim with them opens. This activity is supervised by guides, to make sure they only swim at the side of the sharks, it is dengerous to touch the whale sharks. The tourt allows the participants to stay near them for a few seconds, because despite giving the impression to swim very slow, it is very difficult to keep up with the sharks. The experience of visiting this place is highly recommended for anyone wishing to spend a holiday full of adventure and

However, this current negative view of sharks must change to show what sharks really are, an apex predator of marine life and not human life, and this re-education of the public is the goal of shark baiting/cage diving. People need to change their attitude towards sharks because they are a vital part of ocean ecosystems as a top predator, and just mindlessly killing them is not smart or moral. Carl Safina, an ocean expert and author of many books about the ocean, has written Song for the Blue Ocean, in which he advocates for a “sea ethic.” This sea ethic is an idea that humans must respect the ocean and its inhabitants in every respect, much as we respect land animals. What cage diving and shark baiting does to help promote the sea ethic is that it helps people get close to ferocious sharks and to learn how sharks act.…

Considering the length of Vietnam's coastline it does come as somewhat of a surprise that most of the diving is based in Nha Trang. Da Nang may develop as a diving destination but currently there is only one operator. Diving in general can be very good with everthing from gently sloping fringing reefs to vertical walls down to 50 meters deep. The coastal waters off Vietnam offer an impressive biodiversity with nearly half of all the species of coral on the planet found here.…
