The reason many people consider TR as the first progressive president, is because america was in the gilded age around the time TR became president. As in, you take the worst parts of something, for example a meat processing plant with all of its nastiness and unhygienic properties, and write about it to show it to the world in a book. “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair is probably one of the best forms of Muckraking to talk about in this time period. Sinclair wrote about Slaughterhouses in her book “The Jungle” and about the workers and what they had to go through in this business. Without going into too much detail, the book and it’s contents were enough to make people vomit.
