As a way to stop the spread of communism, Truman implemented the containment policy which would be used to limit and stop the progress of communism through containing it within its borders. Truman’s version of the containment policy would have the components of increasing the supply of atomic weapons to pose as a potential threat to the Soviet Union, improving and strengthening the U.S. military and establishing alliances, providing aid to countries resisting communist power, and using espionage and propaganda to give the United States an advantage in stopping communist power. Some events that show Truman’s efforts in enforcing his version of containment include the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall plan. The Truman Doctrine was a speech given by president Truman that expressed his concern for Turkey and Greece’s potential of their government being taken over by communism due to their weak economy, and eventually giving more global power to the Soviet Union.
