If his father would have said he cared this would have helped keep Donald from using. Donald did not care about himself and had to have people tell him they cared. In contrast, TJ was particularly closed to his mother. If he were to lose his mother who serves as the primary parent, she appears much more caring for TJ than how Donald sees his father’s actions. In addition, it would seem unlikely Donald would remain sober if he were to live with his mother.
